What You Can Expect
In any development intervention, it is critical that we are clear about what we are trying to achieve. It is also very important that this aim is rooted in the reality of your life and the challenges ahead.
Firstly, we will work together to tailor a development roadmap detailing how you can achieve your specific development objectives. These objectives are then grouped under the following headings:
- Overarching Aspirational Goal
- Behavioral Goal
- Strengths and Obstacles
- Inner Work
- Outer Work
Once we have committed to a set of actionable goals, the coaching journey takes you from sharpening your self-awareness to advancing your self-leadership and eventually mastering your self-development. We will explore the root causes of the manifested behaviors and how your personality and experience are relevant to your desired outcome. This will produce an agenda that will guide the remaining meetings over the course of the program. In subsequent meetings, we systematically work through the development plan, with homework set for action to be taken between meetings. In the final session, we will review the work done and the progress made, and determine whether further coaching would be useful.
I will work with you to understand the assumptions you make (often subconsciously) that are holding you back. I will introduce relevant tools to deepen your self-knowledge, help you determine exactly where you are along the path to change, and identify alternatives and the options open to you. We will work together to design safe experiments for you to try out the new behaviors and approaches.
Everything that we discuss will remain strictly confidential. If you have any worries concerning confidentiality, please raise them immediately, as it is essential that you feel you are in a safe environment in order for our work to be effective.
Getting the Most out of Your Coaching
My Coaching is not a form of therapy nor psychological counseling, although the coaching work may touch upon personal issues or situations that impact on your professional performance. Coaching conversations do not constitute legal, financial, or business advice. In the event that such services are required, I can help you look for a licensed professional.
In order to get the most out of your coaching and ensure the expected results are achieved, we need to adhere to the following points:
- Accountability: We are jointly accountable for the value of our work. We will always thoroughly prepare for our sessions and think through a suggested agenda. I encourage you to come to the meeting having thought about which topics it would be most useful to discuss.
- Regularity: We will reschedule our sessions only as a last resort. Keeping a regular schedule of meetings makes the overall program more effective. Additionally, we will agree on steps to be taken between meetings, and if the time between meetings changes we may lose momentum and our work will be less effective.
- Honesty: Please always be honest with me. I will be honest with you. There is little I have not heard over the years, and it is difficult to shock or surprise me. Please make sure that you tell me about your successes as well as your setbacks.
- Feedback: Please give me your feedback as we work together. Tell me what is working for you and what is not. Ask for anything that we are not covering or any additional approaches you would like me to take.
- Action: Only agree to action steps if you are 100% committed to taking them. Wish lists do not add value – focused action does.
